Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay Pigeon shooting, so called because the disc shaped targets replace live pigeons, is an internationally recognised sport which has Olympic status. The weapons used are sporting shotguns of which we have a selection to suit all ages and sizes whether male or female. The clay pigeons (targets), which are basically made from pitch and limestone dust, are thrown through the air at varying speeds and angles to represent the flight of birds; few things can compare with the excitement and satisfaction of hitting and demolishing your first and every target. Why do they say ‘pull’ when calling for a target? Because originally, a pigeon was released from a trap (box) by "pull"ing a string on the trapdoor.

Air Rifle Shooting

Many schoolboys must have dreamed of owning an airgun, with every pellet hitting the bullseye. Many big boys live out this dream as a serious sport. Airguns come in many types and sizes. They provide an excellent opportunity to practice and develop your concentration and control. Mendip Shooting has a purpose designed range with covered shooting positions and for those with no experience we provide yet more expert tuition to keep you on target. Our Practice Range has covered shooting positions, together with a good selection of Knock Down Targets, with normal regulation targets distances up to 27 yards are available, giving targets to suit most Abilities.

Archery

Since the battle of Agincourt the British have been the acknowledged masters of archery. Continuing the tradition we can again provide the finest tuition and equipment to ensure your early success with the most British of Sports. Robin Hood and our archers at Agincourt used the powerful long bow which could put an arrow through armour. But nowadays however, we do not need to have the muscles of Charles Atlas as archery is now a precision sport, which uses bows designed for accuracy rather than power. Why not see if YOUR arrows fly straight.

Please Note Archery is only run during the summer months. Please enquire for availability.
